Uncork Your Thoughts - This Month’s Journal Prompt
The Wine That Surprised You
Welcome to the first of our monthly journal prompts.
Wine is rarely just about what's in the glass. It's the table you were sitting at, the person who poured it, the moment you were in when it happened to land. Every bottle carries a little story, and most of us never write them down.
That's what these prompts are for. Each month, we'll offer a theme to sit with: something to pour a glass for, open your journal, and explore at your own pace. No tasting notes required (unless you want to!), no wine knowledge needed. Just you, a good glass, and a bit of time to remember what wine has meant to you. Over the months, your journal becomes something more than a record of what you drank. It becomes a record of the moments around it.
We're starting with one of our favourites.
Some bottles announce themselves. You know what you're getting before the cork is pulled: a favourite region, a trusted producer, a grape you've come back to a hundred times. There's real comfort in that.
But then there are the others.
The glass that arrives unexpectedly, at someone else's table, from a list you almost didn't open, poured by a friend who said just try it. The wine that makes you put down your phone, lean in slightly, and think: where did that come from?
This month's journal prompt is dedicated to that wine. The one that genuinely surprised you.
It doesn't have to be rare or expensive. It just has to be the bottle, or the glass, that shifted something. That reminded you why wine, at its best, is never quite finished revealing itself.
Grab your journal, pour something you love, and work through the prompts below at your own pace. Remember - there are no right answers, only yours!
Not sure where to start? Here are some questions to help prompt you:
Where were you and who were you with?
What were you expecting - and what did you get instead?
Write three words that came to mind on the first sip
Is there someone you would live to share this wine with? What would you want them to notice about it?
Did the bottle, the label, the setting/mood play a part in how you felt about it?
If this wine were a month in time, what moment would it be?
What time of day was it - and does that feel right for this wine now, looking back?
How would you describe it to someone who hasn’t tried it?
Did it change how you think about that grape, region or style?
Would you seek it out again, or was it part of the magic in the moment?
